This portrait is of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy. She is supporting him as President of the United States of America. My research focused on what happened during the 1960's, like the Cuban Missile Crisis. The plane in the painting behind them is of a U2 Spy Plane and the rocket is from the moon landing. Kennedy's image is a symbol of hope to the American People. He is also known to be a war hero. I wanted to use visuals to depict his private vs. public life. One aspect of his life that is private is his Addison’s disease. Thats why his skin can appear orange, or tan in color. Here this is exaggerated slightly. He injured his back during his service in the navy, so that could be why he's seated. The baby hand is the bottom right corner resembles his legacy, but also America's.
